Collage is the essence of my work, it’s how I articulate what I see. I love photography, but my love is not at all reverential. I cut up and recombine photographs. Collage lets me temper my photographs, making an image that is more personal, more abstract.
The photographs describe items that catch my eye, details of the city, occasional people, erosion, water worn rocks, unusual architecture, natural forms, ancient ruins. The images are about movement, atmosphere, the feeling of a particular place, more than the thing itself. I want to communicate a special feeling about a place and a time with these images. The collages tease the eye. Space and depth are distorted. I want to take the photograph beyond its still, flat limits.
I began this body of work in 2002.
